On our evening, masterpieces of the Viennese Classical period will resound. Joseph Haydn's opera The Philosopher's Soul, or Orpheus and Eurydice, with its unusual title, was composed during his first trip to England, though its premiere had to wait until the mid-20th century. In contrast, the Symphony No. 101, composed in London on a commission, was performed with great success along with eleven other companion works. The nickname “The Clock” comes from the rhythmic ticking of the slow movement, reminiscent of a clock.

One of W. A. Mozart’s central genres was the piano concerto. Passion, depth, and dramatic power radiate from the C minor concerto, performed by Budapest pianist Zoltán Fejérvári, a piece that justifiably earned Beethoven’s admiration. Conductor Gergely Dubóczky, artistic director of the Szeged Symphony Orchestra, is especially dedicated to the works of Joseph Haydn.
