Debussy: Petite Suite
Ravel: Piano Concerto in G major
Bizet–Shchedrin: Carmen Suite
Miskolc Symphony Orchestra
- Piano: János Palojtay
- Conductor: György Mészáros
This concert is a tribute to the rich traditions and vibrant colors of French music. Ravel's unmistakably individual orchestral "palette" is showcased in his Piano Concerto in G major, a work he described as "cheerful and sparkling," influenced by the concertos of Mozart and Saint-Saëns, with occasional Basque melodies and jazz elements woven in.
The older contemporary, Debussy, originally composed his Petite Suite as a four-hand piano piece. Its orchestral arrangement captivates with its fresh energy and graceful elegance. Bizet's timeless opera music from Carmen is reimagined by the Russian composer Rodion Shchedrin, who arranged this work for strings and percussion, originally as ballet music.
Our concert welcomes two young guest artists: György Mészáros, currently residing in Germany, and Budapest-based pianist János Palojtay.
